The light in the room decides what a diamond does. Overhead office light arrives diffuse, from every direction at once, and a broad table under it returns flat white brightness. A single hard source — sun through a window, one lamp above a table — is what makes a pavilion split light into color. Most shapes are good at one of those conditions and ordinary in the other.

A radiant answers both, because it borrows a step cut's wide table and a brilliant's faceted pavilion. The table carries the daylight brightness. The pavilion supplies color when the light narrows. At five carats there is enough face for both behaviors to be visible on the same stone at the same moment.

The outline is an octagon, corners beveled rather than pointed, so the prongs close on flat facets and no tip stands out where a hand meets a door frame. Grown by CVD, certified by IGI, G–H in color, VS1–VS2 in clarity, polish and symmetry graded Excellent.
