A 3.00mm solid Figaro chain necklace in 14K yellow or white gold, about 6.6 g at 18 inches. Solid is the operative word. Plenty of gold chains at this width are built from hollow links, tube bent to shape and closed, because hollow buys width cheaply. It also buys a chain that dents and cannot be undented. There is nothing behind the wall to push against, so a crushed hollow link is replaced rather than repaired.
A solid link takes the opposite path. It can be filed, soldered and polished back to itself, which means a chain like this stays repairable for as long as anybody wants to keep it. That is the practical difference, usually explained in terms of gram weight alone.
At 3.00mm the Figaro's alternating long and short links are still clearly legible, while the chain remains fine enough to disappear under a shirt collar and to carry a pendant without arguing with it. This is the width most people end up wearing daily. A lobster clasp closes it.
