Double Square Tube Hoop Earrings in 14K Yellow Gold

A round tube carries one highlight, wherever the light happens to fall on it. A square tube has four flat faces, and a flat face is either lit or it is not, so an angular hoop moves through light in steps: one plane goes bright, holds, then hands off to the next as the earring turns. It is a harder and more deliberate sparkle than a round profile gives.

This design runs two square tubes side by side. The seam between them is a fine dark line separating two bright planes, and that line is what makes the pair read as double rather than as one thick band. Square tube is also harder to bend than round. Forming a right-angled section into a circle without collapsing the corners is why a well-made angular hoop keeps crisp edges the whole way around and a poor one goes soft at the curves.

The hoop measures 16mm tall by 14mm wide and weighs 1.5 grams, light for its size because tube construction is hollow by definition. A hinged snap back closes it, so the earring fastens to itself and there is no second component to lose.
