Four hundred diamonds share 2 carats between them, and that arithmetic is the design. Dividing a fixed weight across a very large number of stones buys something a few big stones cannot: speed. A small diamond swaps facets with a smaller change of viewing angle, so it fires and re-fires on the slightest movement, and an ear is never still.

The stones run in three rows and are set on both faces of the hoop, inside and out. That is the second half of the idea. A hoop rotates as you move, and a single-sided hoop goes dark through half of that rotation, while this one keeps a set surface pointed outward the whole way around. Dense coverage also hides the setting. When stones sit this close, the prongs fall into the gaps between adjacent girdles, leaving very little metal showing to read as metal.

All 400 are held in prongs, graded I-J in color and I1-I2 in clarity, carried on 3.69 grams of solid 14K white gold.
