14K Gold Adjustable Franco Chain

Franco links are V-shaped in section, and each one seats into the back of the link before it. Interlocked that way, the chain closes into a dense four-sided tube with almost no play at the joints, which is why a Franco hangs straight where a looser construction spirals and sits crooked on the neck.

That geometry matters more at 1.00mm, not less. A fine chain has too little mass to pull itself straight, so the straightness has to come from the way the links fit each other. The four flat planes of the tube also give a high polish something continuous to work with, so the chain reads as one line of light rather than a row of separate glints.

It adjusts up to 22 inches, with the small heart at the tail giving the loose end enough weight to hang instead of flicking up. At 3.5 grams for the full length it is dense for its width, because the Franco packs more gold into an inch than any open link chain of the same face. A lobster clasp closes it.
