In a common prong setting one prong does two jobs: it holds the right side of one diamond and the left side of the next. Halving the number of posts in the row is what lets the stones sit close enough to nearly touch, and it is why a band set this way reads as a line of diamond rather than a fence of gold with stones behind it.

The cost of that is worth saying out loud on a ring meant to be worn for decades. A prong shared between two stones is a prong whose wear concerns both of them, so an occasional look under a loupe counts for more here than on a ring where every stone stands alone. Retipping is an afternoon at the bench. Replacing a lost stone in a matched row is the harder job, because the replacement has to agree with everything around it.

5 cttw runs across a 4.30mm band, round brilliant throughout, 4.96 carat minimum total weight. Light reaches each stone from the sides as well as from above, which is the whole reason to prong set a band instead of channeling it.

How to Choose a Diamond Eternity Ring

Sizing comes first with a full eternity band. Because the diamonds continue the whole way around, the ring is made to size rather than resized later — so confirm your size before ordering, and note that wider bands wear snug. Carat weight then sets the presence: 2.00–3.00ct total reads as a fine, everyday line; 4.00–5.00ct is the balanced middle; 6.00–8.00ct makes the band the centrepiece, with width scaling from roughly 2.9mm to 6.4mm alongside it. Finally, choose the cut — round brilliant carries classic fire, while emerald cut reads as a calmer, architectural line of light.
