A 0.50 ct round solitaire cathedral diamond engagement ring in solid 14K white gold, its natural diamonds led by a 0.50 ct center stone, I–J (near-colorless) in color and SI2–I1 (slightly included to included) in clarity. Band width decides how large a stone looks, and this ring makes a deliberate choice about it. A half carat on a wire-thin shank looks bigger than it is; on a 2.8mm band it looks set into something. The second is the more durable idea. A 2.8mm shank carries enough metal to resist bending out of round, to be sized several times over a lifetime, and to give the diamond a base rather than a perch.
