In Brief

A Franco chain sets V-shaped links tightly against one another, so the chain forms one dense, even line that keeps its shape. The Guide

How to Choose a Franco Chain

Read the weight, not only the width. The solid 2.20 mm Franco carries about 10.5 grams at 18 inches, more gold than the 3.20 mm chain at about 8.5 grams, and the 4.1 mm chain is the widest and heaviest, up to about 15.4 grams at 24 inches. A Franco holds its shape, so it suits a chain worn every day, alone or with a pendant. Then the length: 18 to 20 inches sits at the collarbone, 22 to 24 inches falls mid-chest.

What is a Franco chain?

A chain of V-shaped links set tightly against one another, so it forms one dense, even line that keeps its shape. DEEVE's Franco chains are 14K gold, mostly diamond-cut, from a 1.00 mm adjustable chain to a 4.1 mm necklace, with a 3.10 mm Franco bracelet.

What is the difference between a Franco and a Cuban chain?

A Cuban chain is built from oval links twisted so each lies flat against the next, giving a broad line that rests flat on the chest. A Franco sets V-shaped links tightly together into a denser, rounder line that holds its shape.

Is a wider Franco chain always heavier?

No. The solid 2.20 mm Franco weighs about 10.5 grams at 18 inches, while the 3.20 mm chain weighs about 8.5 grams at the same length. Each listing gives the approximate weight at every length, so compare by weight as well as width.

Is there a Franco bracelet?

Yes. The solid diamond-cut round Franco bracelet is 3.10 mm wide, 7.5 inches long and about 9.8 grams, in 14K yellow gold, on a lobster clasp with an end cap.

About this collection

A Franco chain sets V-shaped links tightly against one another, so the chain forms one dense, even line that keeps its shape. DEEVE's Franco chains and bracelet are solid 14K gold, never gold-plated or filled, mostly diamond-cut, from a 1.00 mm adjustable chain to a 4.1 mm necklace, in yellow gold, with the adjustable chain also in white. Necklaces

The diamond-cut Franco necklaces are 2.20, 3.20 and 4.1 mm, in yellow gold, from 18 to 24 inches. The 2.20 mm chain is solid and about 10.5 grams at 18 inches, more gold than the wider 3.20 mm chain at about 8.5 grams, so the weight on each listing tells you more than the width. The 4.1 mm chain runs from about 13.0 grams at 20 inches to 15.4 grams at 24. The 1.00 mm adjustable chain, in yellow or white gold, carries a heart dangle and adjusts up to 22 inches.

The Franco Bracelet

The solid diamond-cut round Franco bracelet is 3.10 mm, 7.5 inches and about 9.8 grams, on a lobster clasp with an end cap. Diamond-cut means the gold is faceted with a cutting tool so the links flash as they move; there are no stones.
