Gold Purity and Alloy Composition

Prongs Fail Before Shanks

The retipping intervals matter more than the thinning rates, because a prong is a thin column of metal doing the work of holding a stone. It wears from the top and from the side at once, and the warning sign is a prong catching on knitwear rather than anything visible.
