A beaded U-link chain necklace in solid 14K yellow gold, about 3.3 g at 18 inches. At 3.3 grams there is no force in this necklace. Nothing here is achieved by mass, which puts the entire burden on shape, and shape is what the front section is built from.

The two forms alternating along the front behave in opposite ways. A bead curves outward and throws a single highlight that travels as you move. The inside of a U-link curves inward, and a concave surface gathers reflections into a bright line running along the trough instead of a point. The chain produces dots and dashes at once, which is a rhythm rather than a shine.

The alternation also gives the eye a repeat to follow, and a repeat is what allows a light necklace to read as a designed object rather than a length of material. At 18 inches it sits on the collarbone, where that patterned front section stays visible above most necklines. A lobster clasp closes it.
