Four lengths, and the longest is effectively a different necklace. At 18 inches this sits at the collarbone as a single row. At 38 it can be doubled and worn as two layers of the same chain, a use most link styles are too eager to tangle to survive.

A paperclip link at 4.2mm gives you the widest flat faces in chainmaking for the gold involved. There are only a handful of links to an inch, each presenting two long polished planes, so the chain reads bright from a distance where a run of small links would scatter the same light into nothing much.

It is also the wide chain that layers best. Links this long and flat have no open loops standing proud for a second necklace to hook into, so a paperclip lies against its neighbors instead of grabbing them.
