An 8.0mm polished Miami Cuban chain necklace in solid 14K yellow gold, about 23.6 g at 22 inches, closed with a box clasp. At this weight the clasp stops being hardware and becomes the engineering question. A lobster's spring is a coil of fine wire, and a chain like this asks more of a closure than that. The box clasp fitted here works by compressing a shaped tongue into a housing, so the load runs through two fitted faces of gold rather than through a spring.
