A 0.95 cttw halo split shank diamond engagement ring in solid 14K white gold, its natural diamonds led by a 0.50 ct center stone, I (near-colorless) in color and SI2 (slightly included) in clarity. A halo is arithmetic before it is ornament. The eye judges the size of a ring by the outer edge of its brightness rather than by the weight of the stone in the middle, so ringing a 0.50 carat round with small diamonds makes the face read as something considerably larger. Small stones cost a fraction per carat of what a large one does, and that is the whole mechanism: you are buying diameter instead of weight.
